When it rains, flooding may occur, even in areas where there has been no flooding. This can happen due to fast water rushes along the rivers or low areas.  The best thing to do in this cases is Flood Preparation or in other words being prepared to see if flood insurance coverage is necessary for your property.

When weather deflection is possible, weather forecasters usually use some specific terms such as:

  • Flood/Flash Flood Watch means that flooding or flash flooding is possible in your area.
  • Flood/Flash Flood Warning means that flooding or flash flooding is already occurring or will occur soon in your area.

Prepare your property by:

  • Transpose furniture, appliance, and carpeting to higher areas in the home where flood water is less likely to reach.
  • Clear all gutters, downspounts of debris and drains.
  • Check if sump pumps and drains are working in order as quickly to remove water from lower levels.
  • Get ready an emergency disaster kit with important things like: insurance documents, important papers, medications, and your most important contacts that you need if you are forced to be away from your property or company for some days.

 If You live in flood prone areas, you should know some flood preparation:

  • Remove all electric components which may be at the same level of flooding.
  • To prevent sewage back up, you should to install an interior or exterior backflow valve.
  • You can relocate flood water away from your property by changing the grade of your yard.
  • Also, on raised areas you can install typical basement units, such as furnaces and water heaters.

After the end of the flood:

  • Transpose all the equipment that contains the current to a location where it can dry out, and dot not pose a risk.
  • Remove as much standing water and water-damaged items as you can do safely.
